The University of Gdańsk is the largest higher education institution in the Pomerania region and one of Poland’s leading comprehensive universities. Established in 1970, the University combines strong academic traditions with a forward-looking research agenda and an active internationalization strategy.

With over 30,000 students and nearly 1,700 academic staff across 11 faculties, the University of Gdańsk offers a broad spectrum of study programmes and research areas aligned with global societal and economic challenges. Due to its university character, it conducts a variety of scientific research; the disciplines represented at the University include the humanities, economics, social sciences, and exact and natural sciences. A significant part of academic life is concentrated on the modern Baltic Campus, one of the largest and most advanced university complexes in northern Poland. The University actively participates in Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, and numerous international research consortia.

The University of Gdańsk is an active member of the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) alliance, a strategic partnership of European coastal universities aimed at building a truly European inter-university campus. Through SEA-EU, UG strengthens its role in transnational education, joint research initiatives, mobility programmes, and collaborative doctoral training.

The University of Gdańsk is among Poland’s leading universities, according to global rankings. Its presence in global rankings such as the QS World University Ranking and the Times Higher Education World University Ranking reflects the high quality of its teaching and research, its increasingly positive international reputation, and the extent of knowledge transfer to the economy.
